About MFHC

The Massachusetts Fair Housing Center (MFHC) is a private, non-profit fair housing organization working to eliminate illegal housing discrimination in Central and
Western Massachusetts.  MFHC is the only full service fair housing center serving the 1.5 million residents of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, Berkshire, and Worcester counties.  MFHC, formerly the Housing Discrimination Project, has been serving this community since 1989.

MFHC’s mission is to enforce and defend human and civil rights and promote fair housing practices through education, research, and the dissemination of information.  MFHC works to educate tenants, landlords, and community groups on fair housing and fair lending practices, provide legal advice and advocacy to clients who have experienced housing discrimination, and remain educated and informed on fair housing issues affecting the people within our service area.

 MFHC provides the following services:
   Education and community outreach about fair housing issues;
  Investigation of fair housing complaints;
  Legal advice and representation to the victims of discrimination;
  Information and education on fair housing practices for tenants, housing providers, and lenders.

If you or someone you know has experienced housing discrimination call MFHC immediately!

When you call MFHC with a complaint, we will:

  Listen to your story and collect important information;

  Thoroughly investigate your complaint;

  Review the results of the investigation with you and help make decisions on how to proceed.

If discrimination is found MFHC will help you file a complaint with the proper agency and aid you through the legal process.  In some cases you may be able to obtain the unit you were illegally denied and/or receive monetary damages.
